Shoulder Replacement Surgery
Dr Zhang offers both anatomical and reverse shoulder replacement procedures, selecting the most appropriate approach based on the condition of the joint and surrounding soft tissues. Detailed pre-operative planning allows for the procedure to be tailored to each patient’s anatomy, with the aim of restoring shoulder movement and reducing pain.
An anatomical replacement may be used when the rotator cuff is intact, while a reverse shoulder replacement is typically considered when the rotator cuff is severely damaged. This technique alters joint mechanics to allow other muscles to assist with movement, supporting improved function and stability in cases of advanced joint degeneration.
Hip Replacement Surgery
Dr Zhang performs total hip replacement surgery using both anterior minimally invasive (AMIS) and posterior approaches, selecting the technique that best suits each patient’s individual anatomy and condition. He uses MyHip 3D planning technology to create a detailed surgical plan before the procedure, helping to optimise implant positioning and support long-term joint function.
Where appropriate, Dr Zhang uses the AMIS technique, which avoids cutting through major muscles and may assist with a smoother recovery. He commonly uses the AMIS stem and dual mobility implants, designed to enhance joint stability and reduce the risk of dislocation, without the need for cutting blocks during surgery.
Knee Replacement Surgery
Dr Zhang provides personalised total knee replacement surgery using advanced techniques designed to improve comfort, alignment, and long-term results. He uses MyKnee technology for detailed pre-operative planning, allowing the procedure to be tailored to each patient’s unique anatomy and alignment.
During surgery, Dr Zhang applies kinematic alignment principles, aiming to restore the knee’s natural motion by positioning the implant in line with the patient’s original joint structure. He commonly uses the Medacta Sphere knee implant, which is designed to improve joint stability and support more natural movement during everyday activities.
